History of Incidents
Since the beginning of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military commanders have been targeted within Moscow.
This most recent event comes after other serious incidents, including:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a explosive hidden on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a Ukrainian source previously connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are rarely formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.
The war has been marked by clandestine operations reaching into the streets of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death continues to be ongoing.
