Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, most notably the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
