Britain's Katie Boulter admits she feels she has to "decide between my physical health and my world standing" as the competition carries on for a spot in January's Australian Open main draw.

While the standard WTA Tour tournament schedule is completed, there are still ranking points to be won in Latin American countries, Argentina, various venues and France.

The women's entry list for the first Grand Slam of the 2026 season will be based on the world rankings of the December cutoff, which could cause a challenging situation for players close to the selection threshold.

Physical Setbacks

Previous British number one Boulter experienced an hip muscle in her final event of the year in international locations last timeframe, and is now evaluating whether to play in the WTA 125 Challenger event in Angers, the continental destination, in the initial week of December.

The athlete's current physical issue, and the reality she would need to win at least three matches in Angers to boost her position, means she may well ultimately not playing.

Contrasting Methods

In opposition, male players are not confronting the same situation, as for the initial instance the men's Australian Open participant roster will be drawn up from present week's rankings, which is the ATP's official annual-final ranking date.

The adjustment is designed to discouraging players from seeking ranking points during what is basically the rest interval.

Training Transitions

This year has been a difficult one for Boulter.

She won only 14 elite primary competition matches and recently separated with trainer Biljana Veselinovic after a three-year partnership in which she secured three WTA championships.

"Biljana is an incredible trainer, and an extremely quality individual as well, which produces circumstances extremely hard," Boulter said.

The pursuit for a replacement instructor is currently ongoing, looking for an individual who has top-tier background as Boulter continues to think she can be a top-20 competitor.

Career Objectives

"Moving ahead with a replacement instructor, one thing I'm very clear on is that they are going to be a professional who has extensive knowledge in how to advance to the peak performance of this game," she stated.

"I've been positioned as elevated as 23 and I am confident I can return to that level. I don't think my level has gone anywhere, I believe the steadiness needs to develop.

"My objective is not merely to be placed 50, forty, 30, 20 - we've achieved that. The goal is to be inside the elite group."
