Fans Urge Detainment of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are urging that a person who breached a barricade and grabbed the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the Australian man shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was due to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Well-being
Numerous supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further response on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had assembled in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a dual version of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
