Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
