Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
