Mikel Arteta Praises a More Dependable Squad and Confirms Havertz Setback.

Mikel Arteta remains confident that his side can keep managing with injury setbacks after confirming that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been out for months due to knee surgery. Originally slated to be available at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when advancing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is available following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Linger

More doubts involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on reinforcements in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to handle such absences.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Indeed, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in different positions, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at this level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Addressing the delay highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, personally, I admire greatly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his character, his personality. I see him suffer being outside.”

“His availability record is phenomenal, he’s been always available, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back around the team and playing because I think it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
