New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”
New York police released surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.
The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.
Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in March.
