Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
