Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.
But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next goal when Vicario gave away possession well outside his area.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.
But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper again, some Tottenham fans jeered him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing episodes really angered Frank.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough booing following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart stated that the next score was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning goal."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario After the Game
Italy international Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
He stated after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."
He said receiving jeers "comes with the game".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do what they think.
"It's on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn results. Today is a poor loss and it's hard to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was not an simple goal for Harry Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next longest-range top division score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to target.
Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for ages," he said.
"It amazed me none of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a bit of extra time. Then it was solely about trying to make the correct contact and place it towards goal. I had a good sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
While the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to extend their home woes.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint team record along with 1994 and 2003.
They still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play prior to the close of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from Vic.
"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got take the stick," Murphy said. "He has taken a prestigious role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
