Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to avoid both.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
